It’s that time of year again. Nanowrimo. It’s a month long battle with myself. I’ve participated the past three years. (This is my fourth!)
Two of the three years I finished the challenge. Last year…well not so much. This project is going to be finished. I’ve plotted it for the past month. Okay sort of plotting. It’s been mulling about in my mind. I’ve had the characters developing for some time. It’s not hard getting this story together. It’s a story close t my heart. It’s my love story with the husband. I’ve wanted to start it. I figured what better time to get it going then Nano.
So what is Nanowrimo?
During the month of November everyone who participates must write 50k words. It seems easy peasy, but it’s really a challenge. I have a hard enough time writing 10k words in a month. Between work, kids, taking care of the house, and writers block….sheesh. Who has time for all that? Well I’m making time. It’s getting toward the end of day 4.6,666 words are to be done today. I’m at 5k. I can get that extra 2k out.
Is anyone else participating this year? How do you write? Do you plan ahead? Do you plot out everything. Do you outline?
Typically I’m a pantser. I like the chaos of not knowing what’s going to happen. I like my brain being cluttered with ideas. I can’t seem to focus in an organised area. There are some who need everything to be neat, tidy, and in its spot.
I prefer to have everything scattered about. My many cups strewn here and there. A coffee cup. A tea mug. My notebooks and random books lying around me.
I’m also one of those people who do not set aside a specific time to write. I do it when I can. I have a full-time night job, two kids, a house to take care of, and a husband. I can’t always do things when I want to. The hope is one day I’ll be able to write full-time. That would be amazing.
When do you write? Do you etch out a specific time everyday?
Everyone has their own method of writing. Whether you’re a planner, a pantser. If you have specific writing times or do it whenever you can squeak out a second alone.
Nanowrimo is a great writing contest. Whether you finish or not at least you’re writing.
